Yucatecan Women Join Forces to Preserve and Promote Ancestral Cuisine

María Pinzón Dzul leads a project that seeks to rescue and promote the traditional flavors of Yucatán, with the participation of local cooks.

Intending to preserve and revitalize traditional Yucatecan cuisine, María Pinzón Dzul is bringing together a group of women to promote this gastronomic legacy, recognized worldwide as a cultural heritage.

“Ancestral cuisine must remain alive and be valued for its impact on our identity. We want the hands of Yucatecan women to bring this richness to local, national, and international events,” emphasized María Pinzón.

Currently, the team is in its initial phase, recruiting young and adult women from different municipalities to revive unique dishes and ancestral techniques.

“Yucatán has global recognition in gastronomy, and we want this knowledge to remain,” she stated.

She also noted that they have already captured the interest of new generations, with two young women joining the first group.

“We not only seek to preserve recipes but also to generate economic opportunities for rural communities and the guardians of this tradition,” she added.

María Pinzón emphasized that regional gastronomy is a bridge between the past and the present: “Each dish tells the story of our Mayan people, their relationship with the land and their traditions. For tourists, tasting our food is a unique cultural experience.”

By participating in fairs and exhibitions, the project promotes sustainable tourism and strengthens Yucatecan identity: “It’s time for the world to know the true value of our cuisine, prepared with passion and ancestral wisdom.”
