Yucatán International Reading Fair 2025 ends with over 200,000 visitors

After a week of more than 200 workshops, around 300 activities, including book presentations, meetings, and discussions, with an exhibition floor hosting more than 130 exhibitors with 10,000 titles, the Yucatán International Reading Fair (Filey) 2025 came to a close.

The closing ceremony of this year’s edition took place on Sunday night at the Siglo XXI Convention Center, where Filey Director María Teresa Mézquita extended her gratitude to the university community, publishers, reading promoters, and the public who attended the nine-day literary festival.

For his part, the rector of the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), Carlos Alberto Estrada Pinto, surprised everyone with the announcement that the Filey will return next year for its fourteenth edition, from March 14 to 22. He also announced that the next edition’s guest of honor will be the Autonomous University of Baja California.

According to the director of the Filey, preliminary attendance figures for this year’s edition could have reached 240,000, both at the main venue and at the surrounding venues. She noted that high attendance was maintained during the week of the fair, with a record of all attendees, who completed every activity presented at the fair.

The Filey activities concluded with a stellar performance by the UADY University Traditional Orchestra, conducted by Arturo Turriza. The repertoire included a medley of cha-cha-chá, tropical music, and hits like Piel Canela and La Bamba.

Por Esto was present throughout the nine days of the fair, with interviews with more than a dozen authors such as Jorge Zepeda Patterson, Alberto Ruy Sánchez (2025 José Emilio Pacheco Excellence in Literature Award winner), Suzette Celaya, David Toscana, and Rosely Quijano, among many others.

The festival also featured events such as literary gatherings, conferences like UC-Mexicanistas, book presentations, and cultural activities.
