The Yucatán State Government continues its search for the four fishermen who have been lost in Progreso since Tuesday, March 25. The Ministry of Public Security (SSP) has deployed aircraft and speedboats to expand the search at sea.
Since the first day of the report, the SSP has deployed a Bell 429 helicopter, a small plane, and four speedboats. These include three Defender-type speedboats (1870, 1871, and 1873) and a rescue boat (840), crewed by maritime search and rescue specialists.
To date, the operation has flown 1,654 nautical miles with the vessels. The helicopter has flown 16 hours and 55 minutes, covering 1,810 miles, while the small plane has flown 6,300 miles in 11 hours and 54 minutes. Relatives of the fishermen have accompanied the searches from the air and at sea.
On the night of Thursday, March 27, relatives and fishermen met in the Chicxulub community. Due to the sea conditions, they agreed to suspend the search with small boats for safety reasons. Instead, a larger vessel, supplied with community resources, joined the operation.
The Yucatán State Government, through the SSP and the Secretariat of Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture (SEPASY), is maintaining direct communication with the families. In addition, the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) announced the addition of a TEXAN aircraft and a vessel to reinforce the search.
