On a tour of the largest market in Spain, the governor of Yucatan was looking for export opportunities.
Joaquin Diaz Mena, this morning toured the largest market in Spain, Mercamadrid, where he toured with his work team to find out what is moving and consumed in the “old continent”, and to survey what Yucatan can offer.
“We started today’s activities in Mercamadrid, the largest distribution, marketing, transformation, and logistics platform for fresh food in Spain. The objective of our visit is to explore how agricultural and fishing products from our state can make their way into this market, which is the third most important commercial partner for Yucatan,” explained the governor of Yucatan.

On his tour, he noticed that exotic fruits are products that have begun to be consumed more colloquially after the arrival of the Latin community in Spain, and that is why in 2025 shipments of fruits such as pitahaya, mamey, and soursop are seen arriving from South America.
He explained that these products can be produced in Yucatan and exported to Spain since they are fruits that have been consolidated in the region and are considered seasonal. In addition, Yucatan is located further north on the globe, which translates into lower shipping costs. Huacho continued his journey in search of opportunities for his state.
“I will continue to share everything we are achieving because this work is for all of you,” said the president who is in Europe because he is part of FITUR 2025.
