Around 2:00 p.m. this Thursday, December 12, a fire broke out in an apartment in the Buyán building, in Montes de Amé, in the north of Mérida.
According to preliminary information, at least 10 people were affected, two of them due to poisoning, in addition to significant material damage, while there was a significant evacuation.
The first versions indicate that the incident originated due to the explosion of a gas tank, however, this will have to be determined by the corresponding authorities.
The fire brigade of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) arrived at the scene and managed to put out the flames in the apartment located on the tenth floor of the building.
Through a statement, the state police reported that ten people received medical attention, of which two were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
It is said that more than 100 people who were in this departmental building were evacuated.
The actions were even supervised by the security secretary, Luis Felipe Saidén, who arrived at the area of the accident.
SSP agents cordoned off several blocks around so that people could be assisted more easily and avoid risks.
Likewise, the Police reiterated the importance of reporting emergencies to 911 and following the instructions of the authorities to guarantee everyone’s safety.
