Assistance from the authorities was immediately requested, prompting the rapid mobilization of firefighters and paramedics from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP).
Evacuation due to fire in Colonia México
Upon arrival, firefighters began working to control the fire, which threatened to spread to nearby homes. The intensity of the fire forced the evacuation of several residents as a precautionary measure.
During the rescue efforts, SSP paramedics treated two people with symptoms of asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation. Both were stabilized at the scene and later transferred to a hospital for further medical evaluation.
So far, no fatalities have been reported. Authorities remain on the scene conducting cooling work and damage assessment. The area was cordoned off to ensure the safety of residents and allow emergency crews to work.
The incident caused alarm among residents of the neighborhood, who acknowledged the swift intervention of emergency services, which prevented a greater tragedy.
In a statement, the SSP reported that a fire was reported on the 911 emergency line at a property located in the México Oriente neighborhood, in the city of Mérida.
Security personnel and firefighters responded immediately and managed to rescue everyone inside. The fire was extinguished, and no serious injuries were reported; they were only treated for smoke inhalation.
It’s worth mentioning that one of the people was taken to the hospital, not for fire-related injuries, but for a previous back injury sustained days earlier from a fall.
