PANABÁ, YUCATAN—Municipal authorities presented the official program for the fair in honor of San Isidro Labrador, which will be held from the 6th to the 18th of this month, featuring a wide range of religious, traditional, bullfighting, musical, and livestock activities.
During the press conference, led by Mayor Nicolás Luit Alcocer, the preparations and events that will mark this long-awaited festival were announced.
The mayor emphasized that this year, safety measures will be strengthened, especially in the area of the artisanal bullring, following the fire that occurred last year.
“The use of fireworks will be carefully monitored, and water pipes, fire extinguishers, and personnel will be available to respond to any emergency,” the mayor stated.
Regarding the artisanal bullring, the box owners began construction two weeks ago, and work is expected to be completed this week.
The traditional regional night and dairy festival was also announced for next Saturday the 10th. The event will feature the coronation of Miss Reina Beatriz Cruz Dzib, who will lead the festivities as the fair’s ambassador. The event will be enlivened by the Miguel Collí and Gameba orchestras.
For his part, Father José Valentín Uitzil Yam presented the religious program, which will begin on Tuesday the 6th with the lowering of the image of Saint Isidore the Farmer and a Mass presided over by Bishop Mario Medina Balam.
The Eucharistic celebration dedicated to the patron saint will take place on Thursday the 15th, followed by a procession through the streets of the municipality. On Monday the 19th, the image will be raised to its niche to conclude the liturgical activities.
Representing the Local Livestock Association, Emanuel Pérez Ávila announced that Fernanda Erosa Camelo will be crowned livestock ambassador tomorrow, Saturday. The inauguration of the Livestock Fair Expo will be on Sunday the 11th at 5:00 p.m.
This event hopes to bring together producers and families from the eastern part of the state, as it will feature a cattle and sheep livestock show, with support for producers from the state government.
During the presentation of the poster, community chronicler Alejandro Aguilar Novelo offered a recollection of the origins and evolution of the fair. He highlighted how it has maintained its religious and cultural essence over the years, while adapting to modern times.
