To save his friend, a tourist ended up drowning and he was found dead on Chac Mool beach. A body washed up on the same beach, leading to suspicions that it was indeed Alejandro.
The body of the tourist found lifeless on Cancún’s Chac Mool beach, was identified as Alejandro González. His remains were washed ashore Wednesday, April 23, at around 5:00 p.m.
Alejandro González was 20 years old and a graduate of the Saginaw Academy of Arts and Sciences. He took a trip to Cancún with some high school friends.
It was on Sunday, April 20th, that he and three friends visited Chac Mool beach that afternoon. One of his friends, who was in the ocean, was suddenly struggling for her life. Alejandro did everything he could to rescue her, but the force of the waves was too strong, carrying him into the sea where he couldn’t get out, and they lost track of him.
“They let the waves push them back to shore, and everything was going well until one of her friends was hit by the wrong wave and thrown out. She panicked and called for help, and so Alejandro did everything he could to help her. She was rescued thanks to his efforts, but unfortunately, he wasn’t,” said Renee, Alejandro’s mother, during an interview with ABC 12 News.
Unfortunately, on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 23, the body of a man washed up on the same Chac Mool beach. It was later confirmed it was Alejandro’s.
The remains were taken to the Forensic Medical Service for further investigation, but so far, neither authorities nor family members have issued an official statement. However, unofficially, it is believed that it is indeed Alejandro.
“He’s an artist; he’s studied art from a very young age,” said his mother, Renee, who, along with her husband Matt, has endured the arduous wait from their home, unable to travel to Cancún due to a lack of passports.
“It’s the most horrible feeling in the world. Our biggest struggle has been not being able to be there,” she added.
It was also revealed that two of Alejandro’s aunts are in Cancún, helping local authorities with the search. Meanwhile, his parents are hoping to obtain emergency passports so they can travel to Mexico.
