The United States Department of State recognized the Guest Assist tourist service program but issued a new travel alert aimed at travelers planning to visit Mexico during Spring Break.
This was announced by the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, Bernardo Cueto Riestra.
Guest Assist is an application designed to provide assistance and guidance to national and foreign visitors arriving in Quintana Roo.
Its objective is to guarantee a safe and pleasant stay, offering support in emergency situations and claims that may affect both the physical integrity and personal property of tourists.
“This is about better service with the guarantee that travelers go to safe spaces and have a pleasant stay. Although the arrival of this segment to the destination has decreased, the United States is our main market and we must preserve it,” declared Cueto Riestra.
Since its launch in 2022, the program has strengthened attention to tourists, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of visitors.
On February 20, the US State Department updated its safety alert for travelers planning to visit Mexico, placing Quintana Roo at risk level two. This means visitors should exercise caution while in the state.
Other states in the same category include Baja California Sur, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Querétaro, Mexico City, Veracruz, and Tlaxcala.
The warning points out risks such as violent crime, the consumption of alcohol, and unregulated medications, as well as dangers at sea.
Although thousands of US citizens visit Mexico without incident, the statement emphasizes the importance of maintaining precautions, especially in popular tourist destinations such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum.
Additionally, the report mentions that crime, including assault and sexual assault, can occur anywhere in the country. In particular, it warns that people who are drunk or alone could be more vulnerable to attacks.
Faced with this situation, the state’s tourism authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to the safety of visitors by promoting tools such as Guest Assist and strengthening operations in areas with high tourist influx.
The objective is to provide confidence to tourists and guarantee that their experience in the Mexican Caribbean is safe and pleasant, reinforcing the image of the destination as one of the most important internationally.
