The incorporation of sargassum into bioproducts requires an investment of US$300 million

In a maximum of three years, hotel-sponsored projects aimed at mitigating the arrival of sargassum to the Riviera Maya, where the phenomenon has returned markedly, will be completed.

Ignacio Muñoz, head of The Sea We Love project, sponsored by the Riviera Maya Hotel Association and the Mexican Caribbean Hotel Council, reported that these projects related to the incorporation of sargassum into bioproducts require an investment of $300 million, financing which they are seeking from the Multilateral Development Bank (MDB).

The sargassum phenomenon revived a few weeks ago after two years of being under the influence of the macroalgae. This initiative seeks to incorporate sargassum into the economy, something that other actors have sought, although in this case, it comes directly from hoteliers, the most affected by the phenomenon.

The sargassum issue has been one of the most worrisome for hoteliers since it began to become an emergency, especially in the early years of this decade.
