The “Ateneo Peninsular” soon to be reopened after an extreme makeover

The “Museo Ateneo Peninsular” (Peninsular Athenaeum Museum), will reopen in 2025.

One of the projects that she considers very important for 2024 and that is being finished at the beginning of this year is the work on the Peninsular Athenaeum, which will be inaugurated soon.

This will be a cultural center of great importance where the site museum will be located, which will talk about the history of the Athenaeum as a building; the Mayan Train museum that will house several of the pieces found in the excavations; the Museum of Contemporary Art, which will be in the upper part and will coexist with the Museum of History of Yucatan.

“We are working hand in hand with the State government to plan all the museography. There is a whole investigation and a whole group of experts who are working on that museum, which will open later,” said Anna Goycoolea.

The director of the INAH Yucatan pointed out that in the first instance, the lower part of this new cultural center will be inaugurated, which also has a research laboratory where archaeologists and restorers will work in various activities.
