Temozón prepares the first gastronomic and craft festival

The municipality of Temozón, located in eastern Yucatán, is preparing its first gastronomic and craft festival in the center, where they will offer foods made with smoked meat.

On the other hand, carpenters from the community will exhibit the furniture they make by hand.

Last week, Mayor Gerónimo Aguilar, accompanied by other municipal officials and the Tourism Department’s directors, announced the project.

It will be the first gastronomic and craft festival in Temozón, and they noted that it is the first time that an event like this would be held in that town.

In the gastronomic field, the community of Temozón is recognized for the smoked meat that many butchers make and sell; several have even become entrepreneurs and resellers of the preparation.

At the entrance to the community from Valladolid and at the exit towards Tizimín, there are many sellers of smoked meat, whose kilogram sells for $260, as well as “special” sausage and blood sausage.

Many people, including visitors from various places on the Peninsula, when they arrive in the area take the opportunity to visit the town and shop. There are even those who sell the product in high vacuum bags so that it can be preserved for a long time without having to be refrigerated. It is estimated that there are around 70 people who sell smoked meat in this community.

In terms of carpentry, there are also 35 people in the community who are responsible for handcrafting different types of furniture, several of them are even hired by large hotels in Quintana Roo and other states to make their furniture.

According to the information obtained, on November 1, 2, and 3, the Gastronomic and Craft Festival will be held in the city center, in which smoked meat and carpenter vendors will be invited to participate.

The former will present a wide variety of stews made with smoked meat, with the aim that local people and visitors come to enjoy the community’s gastronomy. The mayor commented that the town is little by little becoming a tourist destination because there are already several hotels operating in the community.
