The detainees, apparently of Cuban origin, attacked the officers while they were searching the Green 16 Bar located in the Pok Ta Pok neighborhood.
Early Monday morning, at least seven people, allegedly of Cuban origin, were arrested in the exclusive residential area of Pok Ta Pok, located on Cancún’s Kukulcán Boulevard, after an operation that led to an armed confrontation.
According to initial reports, investigative officers were searching when they came under gunfire. Fortunately, no officers were injured. In response to the attack, they requested support from other police forces, and a “Code Red” was activated to mobilize reinforcements.
In response, members of the Tourist Police, the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the State Police, and the National Guard arrived at the scene and surrounded the area.
Security forces subsequently entered a facility known as Green 16, where they arrested several women and men. The detainees were taken to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to be handed over to the corresponding authorities.
The exact motives for the operation have not yet been revealed, so an official statement is expected to be issued in the coming hours to clarify the events. Authorities have intensified operations in Cancún’s hotel zone to combat the presence of criminal groups. The public and tourists are advised to stay informed through official sources.
