School teachers protest blocking the Mérida-Cancún highway toll booth

On Thursday, April 3rd, around 50 teachers, members of the State Committee for Teacher Struggle, occupied the Mérida-Cancún toll booth this morning in protest against the initiative to reform the ISSSTE Law.

It was around 7:00 a.m. when approximately 50 teachers gathered at this point, without interrupting vehicle traffic.

Some teachers carried banners and banners with messages such as “We reject the ISSSTE Law 2025” and “We demand dialogue with the governor,” among others.

Later, as part of their demonstration, the teachers raised their pens to allow motorists to pass.

In this context, the teachers stated that they will not withdraw from this point until the education authorities formally commit to “reversing” this initiative.

In addition, the teachers demand the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law; This is one of the demands they have expressed in their meetings with authorities.

State and federal authorities are expected to visit this highway shortly to speak with the teachers and put an end to this protest.
