Scare for foreign tourists in Yucatán when a large tree fell on their vehicle

A couple of foreign drivers were scared early this morning on the road from Holcá to Kantunil, on the stretch from Tibolón to Holcá.

The tourists were heading toward the city of Mérida, after visiting the south and other parts of the state. However, while traveling on that road, before reaching the town of Holcá, an old, dead tree fell on their vehicle.

This tree, according to some, was possibly struck by lightning years ago, which caused its slow death. Over time, it withered away, and this morning it gave way just as the tourists were passing by in a blue car. There were no injuries, just a huge scare for the travelers.

The tree, still dead, was so large that it practically covered both lanes of the highway. The tourists were just about 100 meters from entering Holcá. For several hours, vehicular traffic was halted while work was carried out to remove the enormous tree that had fallen onto the road.
