Powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake hits Thailand, Myanmar

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake rattled much of Southeast Asia on Friday, flattening skyscrapers and leaving more than 150 people dead from Myanmar to Thailand.

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake rocked Southeast Asia on the morning of March 28. A dramatic viral video shows a Bangkok skyscraper that was under construction toppling to the ground. At least three people were killed and close to 100 people are still missing after the skyscraper crashed down, Thai authorities said.

And toppling buildings in neighboring Myanmar, which declared a state of emergency in some parts.

Witnesses said here, several people were killed when a mosque partially collapsed – and local media said others died as a hotel caved in.

In Thailand, officials said one of at least a few people was killed under the rubble of the partially built skyscraper.

They added that dozens of workers were rescued from the building’s remains, but many are reportedly still trapped.
