Photographer captures a “Funnel Cloud” in northern Merida

Reports indicated that it was a huge tornado, which was denied.

On the afternoon of Friday, November 8th, images of a funnel cloud in the sky of Merida began to circulate on social networks.

These images were captured by users in the Altabrisa area and caused quite a bit of expectation.

Although many people commented that it was a huge tornado, the specialized site Meteorología Yucatán denied the version.

According to this, it is a whirlwind caused by the rotation of ascending and descending currents.

Likewise, NatGeo explains that these formations are known as funnel clouds and can originate from a shower or storm when the air at altitude is unusually cold.

It also points out that these funnel clouds are usually harmless, although they can occasionally touch the ground and cause some damage.
