Peón Contreras Theater to reopen next year

The “José Peón Contreras” Theater still has a long way to go to complete its restoration, revealed the director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in the state, Anna Luisa Goycoolea Artís, which will make the venue reopen its doors next year, since they are only 40 percent complete, although they plan to open a section so that it does not remain completely closed.

She pointed out that the restoration work on the dome of the venue will take at least one more year; she emphasized that the progress in the restoration is only about 40 to 50 percent done.

Goycoolea Artís emphasized that the projection is due to the complexity of the meticulous work being done, which requires special attention to every detail.

The director said that the restoration process involves exhaustive care since the dome of the theater has paintings that must be restored stroke by stroke.

The INAH official reminded the community that the restoration of a building listed as a national cultural heritage site takes time.

The complexity of the work means that each step must be meticulously executed, respecting the originality of the building to preserve its history and architectural value.
