The Mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada, led the celebration of the anniversary of the death of Pedro Infante, an icon of Mexican culture and an actor from the golden age of Mexican cinema.
The event took place at the corner known as La Socorrito, located on 54th Street and 87th Street in downtown Mérida, where the singer and actor died on April 15, 1957.
“I am very grateful to every one of you because you are always present because you are always as a team, united, and that is the Mérida I dream of for all of us. A Mérida where we are united, where there is social cohesion, where there is harmony, where there is peace, where there is pride,” said the mayor.
The Mayor reaffirmed her commitment to the preservation and promotion of Yucatecan and Mexican culture and noted that this tribute is a clear example of the social cohesion and integration that prevails among Mérida’s neighborhoods.
The activities began at eight o’clock in the morning with a Mass in honor of Pedro Infante, where neighbors and fans gathered to fondly remember the actor and singer.
A wreath was then placed at the site of the crash of the small plane in which the artist died. A gathering was also held, featuring live music and various dance performances.
The celebration of Pedro Infante’s death is a tribute to his legacy and contribution to Mexican culture. This event demonstrates the impact his work continues to have on Yucatecan and Mexican society.
