Norma Piña resigned from her position as President of Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice

It`s official, the Chief Justice of the SCJN Norma Piña resigned from her position at the SCJN

On Wednesday, October 30th, the resignation letter of Chief Justice Norma Piña was released after the President of the Senate, Gerardo Fernandez Noroña, confirmed receiving the resignations of eight ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation.

In the document, Minister Piña Hernández limited herself to explaining that “this resignation does not imply my agreement with the separation from the position for which I was appointed (…), but rather an act of congruence and respect for the constitutional text that governs us today.”

Piña, along with seven other ministers, presented their resignation to the Court and their decline to participate in the elections of the Judicial Branch next year.

The minister had taken office as President of SCJN on January 2, 2023, to replace Arturo Zaldívar.

Arturo Zaldívar resigned back then to join Morena, and he currently serves as the General Coordinator of Policy and Government of the Department of the Interior, a position he has held since October 1, 2024, within President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration.
