The Yucatán Ministry of Health highlights the investment of 3 billion pesos and just over two years of work.
After more than two years of construction and an investment of more than 3 billion pesos, the new “Dr. Agustín O’Horán” General Hospital will be physically delivered in October 2025, confirmed the head of the Yucatán Ministry of Health, Judith Elena Ortega Canto.
The operational opening is scheduled for 2026, marking a milestone in the modernization of the state’s medical infrastructure.
The secretary noted that the hospital’s construction, supervised by the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), began in June 2023 and is currently 75% complete as part of the IMSS-Bienestar model. It will also replace the current O’Horán Hospital, which has been operating for more than 119 years.
She reported that, with a surface area of almost 11 hectares and 66,600 square meters of construction, the hospital will have 300 beds, 15 operating rooms, and 81 consulting rooms.
In addition, it will include specialized areas such as women’s clinics, cleft lip and palate clinics, pain management, and palliative care. It will also have an auditorium, parking, and a helipad for emergencies.
Judith Ortega Canto emphasized that this project is part of the renovation of the state’s health system, with a focus on primary care and prevention, cutting-edge technology and equipment, and increased capacity to serve thousands of Yucatecans.
Before its opening in 2026, specialized personnel will be hired and state-of-the-art medical equipment will be purchased.
