Mérida received almost 2 million visitors in 2024

In the year-end balance, the Yucatecan capital predominated with the arrival of tourists, especially national ones. According to the report of the Yucatan Tourism Observatory (Observatorio Turístico de Yucatán: OTY), one million 746 thousand 02 people were registered who decided to visit the city.

Despite the challenges that Mérida faced last year with the arrival of tourists, it closed with a considerable number. However, both municipal and state tourism agencies continue to encourage the arrival of more visitors, especially overnight stays.

The hotel occupancy that the city obtained was 56.6 percent throughout 2024, with March being the month with the highest number, that is, 66.41 percent. It should be noted that it corresponded, apart from the Easter holidays, when a greater number of travelers were received, while in September there was a drop, with 48.77 percent.

However, compared to 2023, hotel occupancy closed at 58.5 percent on average, that is, almost three percent less than in the year that just ended.

According to local business leaders, the biggest challenges of the year were the elections at the national, state, and municipal levels, as well as the Olympic Games, which attracted the attention of millions of tourists, especially foreigners.
