As part of the ongoing public health and safety program promoted by Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada, the Mérida City Council carried out a mega-operation in the Francisco I. Madero neighborhood, addressing 25 properties due to accumulated waste.
This was reported by Enrique Alcocer Basto, Municipal Civil Protection Coordinator.
The Coordinator highlighted the restoration of an entire street on 37th Street, which had been blocked for more than five years by mountains of trash that impeded vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
In addition to the cleanup, social assistance was provided to residents of the affected properties, many of whom were in vulnerable situations. The Municipal DIF (District of Inhabitants of the Municipality) arranged medical and food support and provided follow-up care to improve their living conditions.
Although 25 properties have already been treated, there are 16 more on the waiting list, and new citizen reports are received daily. “We will continue working to restore safety and quality of life to the neighborhoods,” the official emphasized.
