To consolidate Mérida as the tourist destination with the greatest impact and social benefit in the country.
Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada signed a collaboration agreement with the municipality of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, highlighting the importance of tourism for the city’s economic, social, and cultural development.
“This agreement will allow us to exchange experiences in economic, tourism, cultural, and labor matters with Playa del Carmen. Thank you to Mayor Angy Estefanía Mercado Asencio for supporting this connection between our municipalities to generate greater dynamism that allows for a fair and prosperous economic impact for the benefit of the families of our cities,” said Patrón Laviada during the ceremony held within the framework of the Baja California Tourism Fair 2025.
The commitments include joint activities to promote and disseminate tourist attractions and gastronomy; exchange information, documentation, and promotional materials; organization of fairs, seminars, and conferences; and cultural, tourism, artistic, and traditional exchanges and regional festivals.
In addition, both municipalities are committed to exchanging experiences on best practices in the protection, preservation, surveillance, rescue, and improvement of cultural heritage and tourist care and protection. They also agree to promote digital promotion and positioning, and to foster partnerships with tourism industry chambers and associations to generate the exchange of best practices, among other commitments.
