“I reiterate my commitment to a healthy Mérida, where the practice of sports is the way to build a strong and united society,” said the mayor.
During the sports festival that took place in the “Manuel Loría Rivero” park in Merida’s Nueva Pacabtún neighborhood, the Mayor said that this type of activity provides the opportunity for children and youth to grow with firm values, and become good people.
She recalled that the fields of the Nueva Pacabtún subdivision, the Bojórquez neighborhood, the Morelos unit, and the “Fernando Valenzuela” in the south of the city will soon be worked on.
With the participation of six teams, the 2024 Merida Winter League will take place over 15 weeks in different parts of Merida, in the fields of Cordemex, Dolores Otero, Valenzuela, Bojórquez, Morelos and Pacabtún
In an emotional moment, the audience joined in a minute of applause in memory of the recently deceased pitcher Fernando “El Toro” Valenzuela.
Then, the Municipal President presented Marista University with the champion trophy of the “Torneo Universitario 2024”, which gave it the pass to the Merida League.
Finally, Cecilia Patron threw out the first ball, with Pedro Castellanos, of the Bojórquez Devils, as batter, and Jesús Pérez Ballote, director of Human Welfare of the Mérida City Council, as catcher.
