Man climbs power tower in Mérida

A man alerted the emergency units of the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) by climbing to the top of a power tower.

The incident occurred minutes before 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29th, on 16-B Street and 19th Street in the San Pedro Cholul neighborhood.

It was determined that the man, a young man in his 20s, had climbed to the top of a tower belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and remained there for several minutes.

Neighbors in the area noticed the situation and called emergency numbers. Minutes later, SSP police officers and paramedics arrived, spoke with the young man for several minutes, and convinced him to come down.

First responders assessed him there and took him to an SSP unit, which then took him to the corporation’s facilities, where he would receive assistance from the institution.

It should be noted that in recent years, there have been cases of people climbing CFE towers in Mérida for various reasons.

One of the most recent cases occurred in early November 2024, when a young man climbed a structure on the Paseo Verde one night. On that occasion, the incident kept neighbors, police, and the young man’s family on alert for over an hour, but the young man was ultimately convinced to come down.
