Man Arrested After Attempting to Steal Religious Images from Graves in Umán

A man was found in possession of a cross and other religious items. He allegedly entered the Santa Matilde General Cemetery in the municipality of Uman to steal the images from the graves. He was caught and arrested.

The incident occurred on Saturday, March 29th, at approximately 8:30 a.m. at the Santa Matilde General Cemetery located on 21st Street and 28th Street in the municipality of Umán. María del Rosario Paredes Quijano, director of municipal cemeteries, reported that a person had been caught desecrating the graves.

Umán municipal police officers arrived at the scene and spoke with the cemetery director, who said that moments earlier, an employee at the cemetery had caught a male person removing religious images from the graves. She managed to detain him and notify the cemetery director.

The man was arrested and taken to the Miguel Hidalgo police station, where he gave his name as D.D.C. M., 24 years old, from the State of Mexico. He was placed at the disposal of the legal department for the corresponding legal purposes.
