Man arrested for damaging trees in downtown Mérida

On the afternoon of Tuesday, March 25, the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) reported that they arrested a man who was caught damaging public trees on the streets of downtown Mérida.

A video from security cameras located in the Santa Lucía area of ​​Mérida was circulating early on social media. It captured a man breaking trees in the early hours of the morning.

The video shows the individual, identified as José F.E.A., removing branches from 25 trees located on 60th Street. The man was intoxicated.

In a statement, authorities reported that, after learning of the incident, they coordinated with the Mérida Municipal Police to locate the alleged perpetrator.

The Mérida City Council reported that while police officers were conducting their patrol at 3:22 a.m., they noticed the damage to the trees. Beginning with a search operation in the city center, they located José F.E.A. inside the Plaza Grande. He was arrested and taken to the Municipal Jail.

He was placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office for the corresponding legal proceedings.
