Knife attack on a “Va y Ven” bus in Merida

A young man of around 20 years of age was attacked with a knife by an alleged assailant when they were traveling aboard a public transport bus of the “Va y Ven” in Merida.

According to information circulating on social networks, the events occurred on Wednesday, October 2nd, when a man got on the “Va y Ven” bus, and while traveling through the Chuburná de Hidalgo neighborhood, he threatened a young passenger with a knife to try to snatch his backpack, in which he was carrying a laptop.

The aggressor struggled with the young man and injured him near the mouth, causing a wound, after which the subject got off the public transport and fled on foot.

After the attack, it was indicated that the victim asked for support from the 911 emergency service, so agents from the Secretariat of Public Security arrived, as well as paramedics, who gave him first aid and later transferred him to a hospital to receive specialized medical attention.

For their part, SSP police began a search operation to find the whereabouts of the aggressor, but so far it is unknown whether the alleged assailant was arrested.
