A kidnapped young woman was released in Cancún by her captors; her parents paid 13,000 pesos (US$650) for her ransom.

The victim was abandoned by her captors on Kukulkan Boulevard in the middle of Cancun’s Hotel Zone.

Two unknown men kidnapped a young woman on her way to work on Wednesday, April 23rd. She was released hours later after her relatives paid 13,000 pesos, the Secretariat of Citizen Security confirmed.

The report was given to the 911 emergency number, which indicated that these men had kidnapped a young woman whose identity was withheld, which mobilized the State Police Centurion group.

When interviewed, the victim’s mother explained that she received a call from her daughter’s cell phone, in which she was told she was kidnapped and demanded 13,000 pesos as a ransom. They also sent her photos of the young woman and the characteristics of the clothing she was wearing.

At that moment, authorities began a search operation with the support of cameras from the Security Complex (C5). They later confirmed that the young woman was outside the Chedraui store, at kilometer 9 of Kukulcán Boulevard, in the Hotel Zone.

Police officers and the victim’s family went to the location where they took the young woman into custody and then escorted her to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes.

The investigation file explains that she was on her way to work when two men forced her into a car. They then blindfolded her and took her to a home where she could hear other people crying.

After several hours, they told her that her parents had paid the ransom, so they would release her. She was blindfolded the whole time. Then, they took her to the Hotel Zone, where they abandoned her.
