La Reina Zoo welcomed a new resident this morning: an eight-year-old male jaguar from a ranch in Mérida.
The feline, who is of reproductive age, was transferred by staff from Animaya Zoo so he could mate with the female who already resides at the park.
This new member of the zoo is expected to be available for observation by Tizimín families starting tomorrow, Sunday.
The jaguar was received with an adaptation plan and will remain under observation while it acclimates to its new environment, receiving a balanced diet to ensure its well-being.
In addition, the possibility has been opened for Tizimín residents to choose its name, as one has not yet been assigned.
It is worth noting that the female who already resides at the zoo is in good health and also of reproductive age, which increases the chances of successful reproduction between the two felines. Public Services personnel also reported that “Paris,” the Bengal tigress who arrived at the park in late February, has adapted quite well to her new home.
