Innovation with video mapping inside the Homún cavern cenote

The Santa Rosa de Homún cenote is the first in the municipality to implement this technology within its visitor attractions.

The Yucatán Tourism Development Secretariat (SEFOTUR) promotes attractions that enhance culture and leverage technology to offer unique experiences that attract local, national, and international visitors.

With this vision, SEFOTUR collaborates with the private sector to promote projects aimed at encouraging tourism development in the region.

To this end, the agency presided over the inauguration of the new attractions and services at the Santa Rosa Cenote, located in the municipality of Homún.

These attractions include a pyramid with a ceramic display and a representation of a Mayan tomb inside, two new boutique cabins, palapas with bar service, and a video mapping show inside the cavernous cenote, titled Nilú, Nilú, by visual artist Josué Abraham Palma, who offers an audiovisual reinterpretation of the Popol Vuh narrated in Mayan and Spanish.

This project benefits the community by creating 60 direct and 120 indirect jobs. The new attractions are in addition to the lodging services, a restaurant, rest areas, showers, changing rooms, lockers, photo ops, life jackets for swimming in the open cenote, handicraft sales, ample parking, and tour services to the surrounding cenotes.

The video mapping projection was designed to offer an experience that makes viewers feel like they are part of what they are seeing, as the projection encompasses the cavern and is complemented by the reflection of the water, allowing the visual spectacle to be enjoyed even while submerged in the cenote.

This service will be activated starting Saturday, April 19th, at times that will be published on Cenote Santa Rosa’s social media channels. It will be available every Saturday and Sunday as part of the site’s attractions. Seating is limited.
