High tide and heavy rains cause flooding in Campeche

High tide and torrential rains cause flooding in the city of San Francisco de Campeche.

San Francisco de Campeche, Cam., October 17.- The phenomenon of high tide encouraged by the approach of a cold front, the presence of a low-pressure zone, and the fall of torrential rains, caused the flooding of the streets in a wide area of the capital of Campeche. The puddles that were registered suddenly caused the traffic to become unhinged and many vehicles – including a passenger minibus – to be stranded or trapped in the water.

As if that were not enough, the Civil Protection Secretariat of the Government of the State of Campeche (SEPROCICAM) alerted the population about an increase in the potential for rain in the next few days due to the Cold Front and the presence of a Low-Pressure zone.

The Cold Front will bring rain this Thursday, which may be moderate to strong, isolated, in a large part of the State, without ruling out some very strong rains, while the wind will be from the North at 20 to 40 km/h with gusts.

These conditions will persist until Friday, although with less coverage given that the Cold Front tends to stop and weaken in the vicinity of the region.

On Saturday, the entry of a Low-Pressure zone to the Southeast of Mexico is expected, which will again increase the rains in Campeche, leaving some intense precipitation, especially in the Center, South and East of the State.

At the moment, this Low Pressure has a low probability of developing into a Tropical Cyclone, however, it remains under surveillance in case this probability increases.

Given this forecast, the Civil Protection Secretariat recommends the following to the population:

1.- Check the official weather forecast update daily, as well as the warnings and recommendations issued by the Civil Protection Secretariat.

2.- Take precautions and do not expose yourself to the expected weather effects.

3.- Maritime navigation is urged to follow the instructions of its corresponding Harbor Master’s Office.
