The Governor of Yucatán, Joaquín Díaz Mena, met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres.
Guterres arrived in the city of Mérida as part of a private visit to the state. The international diplomat later visited the archaeological site of Uxmal, one of the most representative sites of Mayan culture.
During the meeting, Díaz Mena shared with Guterres the progress of the development model known as the Mayan Renaissance, promoted by his administration. This model, the Governor emphasized, is fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promoted by the UN.
“We promote development from the local level, with projects focused on reducing inequality, empowering our Mayan communities, and, above all, generating real well-being for Yucatecan families. We wish the UN Secretary-General, who is visiting the emblematic Mayan city of Uxmal, an extraordinary stay,” the president stated.
Díaz Mena emphasized that Yucatán is doing its part to protect the environment, promote sustainable agricultural and fishing activities, and preserve species. He also highlighted the state government’s efforts to guarantee access to healthcare and development for women, youth, and senior citizens.
