A fatal accident occurred this morning at kilometer 112 of the Mérida-Cancún highway near the Pisté-Tinum bridge. A cargo truck crashed into a wall, resulting in the loss of life of the driver and another person who was with him.
According to witnesses at the scene, the accident was caused by excessive speed, which caused the truck operator to lose control of the steering wheel. Authorities are already on site to conduct the corresponding investigations and determine responsibilities.
This tragic event once again highlights the dangers associated with driving heavy vehicles. Due to their design, these trucks lack adequate stability and do not have a front engine that can cushion impacts in accidents like this.
Yucatecan transporters always emphasize that it is crucial to be cautious and attentive behind the wheel because one split second can make the difference between life and death.
The Yucatan Times sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the people who lost their lives in this terrible accident, may they rest in peace.
