Colombian Emiliana Arango will seek to become the absolute Queen of the Yucatan Peninsula this Sunday, March 2, by playing the final match of the Mérida Open WTA 500 tennis tournament against Emma Navarro from the United States.
The Colombian player is coming off of winning the Cancun Open WTA 150 and will now be looking to take everything in the region, this after beating Australian Daria Saville in the semifinals 6-3, 4-6 and 6-2.
Both players reached the stages before the final from the Qualifying Tournament, so they already had five matches under their belts before the one they played for more than two and a half hours on the central court of the Country Club Stadium.
The match was very even; both tried to play their game, sometimes from the back of the net, sometimes by getting on the net, but with many emotions and spectacular volleys that ended up giving them points.
The first set was Emiliana’s, who was aggressive in her game, with deep balls and moves to the net that made the Russian, naturalized Australian, commit unforced errors.
But in the second set, Daria learned from her mistakes and corrected her style of play, trying to cross the ball every time the South American tried to get up and catch her off guard, which gave her the victory. But in the third, Arango got back on her feet with courage and fight.
