Due to insecurity in Quintana Roo, the National Guard reinforces borders with Yucatán

Approximately 1,200 National Guard (GN) members are participating in the special security operation for this Holy Week season in Yucatán 2025, which is reinforcing security at border crossings with Quintana Roo. This is in light of the complex security situation facing the state of Quintana Roo.

Commissioner Juan Carlos Guzmán Giadans, territorial coordinator of the National Guard, which covers Yucatán, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, indicated that the operation includes strengthening security cordons between Yucatán and Quintana Roo, especially following recent episodes of violence in tourist areas such as Playa del Carmen.

He emphasized that inter-institutional work is being done with all authorities at all three levels of government to reinforce border crossings between Yucatán and Quintana Roo.

“The entire National Guard has joined the joint effort with federal, state, and municipal authorities to implement operations to ensure security on both highways and in tourist centers, to deter crime and end these vacation periods without a hitch,” he stated.

The federal official explained that a contingent of approximately 1,200 National Guard members is strategically deployed throughout the state, covering operational areas throughout Yucatan.

Guzmán Giadans explained that the personnel in charge of road safety “already have well-established operations, such as radar operations, stationary surveillance, a carousel, and roadside assistance, mechanisms that will be reinforced during these weeks due to the increase in traffic flow.”
