Demand for Mayan traditional ceremonies in Yucatan increases

The Jèets Mèek, known as the “Mayan baptism”, is an ancestral ceremony that symbolizes the integration of the infant into its community. It takes place before the child is four months old and has a deep spiritual and social meaning. The Mayan wedding, known as “Sak’al Nikte’” or “Maya T’aan”, is led by an X’men (Mayan priest), who acts as a mediator between the bride and groom and the spiritual world. It takes place in emblematic natural settings such as cenotes, haciendas, and archaeological sites.

During the ceremony, prayers are recited in the Mayan language, offerings are made to the gods, and the protection of fire, water, wind, and earth is invoked, to guarantee a lasting and prosperous union.

In addition to their spiritual significance, these ceremonies have generated a positive impact on the local economy, benefiting indigenous communities and tourism service providers.
