Cold Front keeps Yucatán ports closed, affecting fishing

For the second consecutive day, Yucatán ports from Celestún to El Cuyo remained closed on April 9 due to the lingering effects of the cold front, which caused a strong northerly event, paralyzing fishing and affecting tourism.

Winds, high swells, and afternoon rain were recorded this Tuesday. Due to the effects of the cold front, the day passed with a drop in temperature, few visitors on the traditional boardwalk, and slight school absenteeism.

According to the National Meteorological Service, the bad weather has affected the Yucatan coast since Monday at noon.

The effects of Cold Front 37 are expected to subside this Wednesday, and the ports will reopen to minor navigation.

Weather reports indicate that during the afternoon of Tuesday the 8th and early morning of Wednesday, the 9th, cold front 37 will extend to the eastern Yucatán Peninsula, bringing rain with occasional showers to Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.

The cold air mass, associated with the front and the influx of moisture, will cause heavy rains in Chiapas and showers in Oaxaca, Veracruz, and Tabasco.

It will also cause scattered showers in Michoacán, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, and Puebla, in addition to fog banks in high-altitude areas of the aforementioned states.

Cold front 37 will extend stationary over the Yucatán Peninsula, causing heavy rains in Chiapas and showers in Oaxaca, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.

This Wednesday, the cold front will move over the Caribbean Sea, while its cold air mass will begin to change its thermal characteristics, effectively ending its impact on Mexico.
