Claudia Sheinbaum expropriates 22 private properties for the Maya Train

It is the first measure taken on this issue under the mandate of the Sheinbaum administration.

A total of 22 private properties were declared a cause of public utility in Quintana Roo for the construction of works related to the Mayan Train, the first expropriation decree in the current federal six-year term with an impact on the state.

The notice was issued in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) affecting land located in Solidaridad, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Othón P. Blanco, for the construction of works in sections 5 and 6 related to the railway project. It is the expropriation of 12 properties in the first municipality, three in the second, and seven in the third.

On this occasion, the surfaces that will be expropriated are smaller than the large extensions of land that were acquired by this means by the Federal Government, in the last two years.

In the case of Solidaridad, there are 1.1 hectares; in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, 0.5; while in Othón P. Blanco, 0.4.

“Carry out all the actions, studies, projects, constructions, acquisitions, complementary, social and real estate development works that are necessary for the construction of the Railway System related to the Mayan Train and those that are created in the national territory for regional development, including all those activities related to the acquisition of goods by any title, private property or any form of land ownership,” reads one of the corporate objects that motivated the expropriation of these lands.

The owners will have a period of 15 business days from the second publication of the notice, to express what is in their interest, in this case up to reversing the amounts of compensation that, on this occasion, were not disclosed.
