City Council officers remove 21 tons of garbage from a house in Cordemex

The Government Directorate of the City Council of Mérida reported that yesterday 21 tons of garbage were removed from a property on 55th Street between 42 and 44 of the Cordemex subdivision, after receiving several reports.

The Animal Protection Unit coordinated with the Directorate of Civil Protection, Public Services, the Municipal Police, and the Health Subdirectorate of the Directorate of Human Welfare to detect and rescue opossums. Harmful fauna, such as rats, mice, and flies, were also present amid foul odors and mud, a statement indicates.

With the authorization of the property owner, cargo trucks of various tonnage were used to remove the waste and transport it to the landfill.

After the deep cleaning of the site, the Public Works department will also intervene to repair the street.

The agency reported that in the same subdivision, another report was received of a sidewalk invaded by washing machines and appliances from a workshop, so they proceeded to clean and dispose of them while notifying the Urban Development Directorate of the corresponding procedures.

As reported, among the criteria to proceed with the cleaning of properties are the accumulation of flammable material, obstructed sidewalks, and excess garbage in the area.

In recent days, the Mérida City Council removed tons of garbage from properties in the Pacabtún, Mayapán and Chenkú neighborhoods.
