Carnival 2025 kicks off in Merida with an important environmental commitment

In a setting of vibrant colors, contagious rhythms, and overflowing joy, the Municipal President of Mérida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada, inaugurated the Mérida Amazon Carnival 2025 at the Xmatkuil fairgrounds, an emblematic event that, for the first time becomes a unique space to celebrate diversity, culture, and care for the environment.

“For the first time, we held an environmentally friendly carnival, protecting animals, marking a milestone in the celebration of diversity and creativity of our Merida citizens,” said the Municipal President.

Amid applause and shouts of joy, thousands of attendees welcomed the arrival of “King Momo” with enthusiasm and joy, to enjoy the music, dance, the parade of the comparsas and more than 122 activities and artistic and musical shows that will be presented from February 28 to March 4 in Ciudad Carnaval with the participation of 250 local and national artists.

Accompanied by more than 37 thousand people from Mérida, the mayor celebrated that the Amazon Carnival 2025 has as its main objective to promote sustainability and invited citizens to recycle and keep the space clean using biodegradable materials.

The excitement and energy of the crowd were palpable at every moment of the inauguration, which was highlighted by the light show with drones that was presented instead of the traditional fireworks to protect the fauna of the Cuxtal Ecological Reserve.

After the formal ceremony, the Mayor moved to her box to enjoy, together with the attendees, the creativity of the Friday parade of “Corso” led by the sovereigns “Julia Rivera I” and “Oscar Pereira I”, and that tonight had as special guests Karime Pindter, Wendy Guevara and Poncho De Nigris.

The 27 contingents enlivened the route, causing euphoria with the passage of the large group of the Canine Kings, as well as the Inclusion and Diversity groups, and the influencers.

The night was set off by the concert of the musical group Piso 21, which performed at the Montejo Entertainment Center.
