Authorities arrested one of the murderers of the Secretary of Security of Tulum

The Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office reported that a Tamaulipas criminal leader ordered the murder of Tulum’s Police Captain José Roberto Rodríguez Bautista.

Authorities arrested one of those implicated in the murder of Captain José Roberto Rodríguez Bautista, Secretary of Security of Tulum, Quintana Roo.

He is Alejandro N., alias “El Rayo,” 42 years old and originally from Taxco, Guerrero; a member of a criminal group in the north of the country.

The Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office detailed that the arrest occurred on March 27 in the port of Veracruz, in coordination with state and federal forces.

Intelligence work revealed that after the murder, the now-detained man escaped to Tampico, Tamaulipas, from where he traveled to Veracruz.

Once arrested, “El Rayo” was transferred to Cancún to be brought before a judge, who ordered him to be held in pretrial detention for the crime of negligent homicide.

“He participated in the murder at the direction of a criminal leader from Tamaulipas,” the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office detailed.

According to the investigation, the Tamaulipas criminal leader was dissatisfied with Captain Rodríguez Bautista’s actions as part of the Colima investigative police, as well as with his participation in a search on the border with Jalisco.

The man detained today is a dangerous individual, allegedly linked to more than 100 executions carried out in the north of the country,” the Prosecutor’s Office added.

The Tulum Security Secretary was followed for at least five months, during which his movements, routes, and security personnel were monitored.

It was also found that attempts were made to assassinate him on six separate occasions.

“El Rayo” participated in the logistics, planning, and execution of the murder committed on March 21, in coordination with eight other hitmen from Mexico City and Veracruz, one of whom died on the day of the events.

A 5.56-caliber M4 rifle and a .40-caliber pistol, exclusively for the Armed Forces, were used in the murder.

The perpetrator was a Guatemalan citizen nicknamed “El Chaparro” or “El Guatemalteco,” chosen for his violent and bloodthirsty nature and experience in dismembering his victims.

The Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office stated that it is working to locate and arrest the remaining participants, for whom it will seek the maximum sentence for homicide, which is 50 years in prison.
