American man destroys a house in the north of Mérida

A man allegedly of American origin caused severe damage to a home in the Jardines de Mérida neighborhood during the early hours of last Tuesday, February 4th, apparently under the influence of drugs, for which he was arrested for housebreaking and damaging other people’s property.

According to the report, the person was arrested by the Yucatán police and placed at the disposal of the State Attorney General’s Office for the corresponding proceedings.

It is known that the events occurred around 2 in the morning on Tuesday, February 4, when the man, identified as Sebastián U., originally from New York, intoxicated with some substance, broke one of the wooden doors of the house located on Yucatán Avenue and entered the premises. Once inside, he began to cause damage, breaking appliances and other objects.

The inhabitants of the house, two elderly people, took refuge in a room and called 911. When the police arrived, they found the subject on the patio of the house, so he was arrested and taken to jail.

Hours later, he was placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office, where an investigation file into the events was initiated. Relatives of the couple reported on social networks that the detainee had been released.

However, it was found out that the owner of the house went to the Prosecutor’s Office and reached an agreement with the American, who agreed to pay 80 thousand pesos for the damage caused.

After the agreement between the two parties involved, the woman granted forgiveness to the alleged aggressor, which means that she gave up the complaint. Because the crime of damaging someone else’s property is not prosecuted ex officio and requires a complaint, and given that the accused had already covered the payment of the damages in common agreement with the victims, he was released.

The story of Natalia TC, who is the daughter of those affected and narrated the events, was spread on social networks. The woman explained that the intruder jumped over the fence and forced the double lock of the main door by kicking it.

The father, alerted by the screams and noise, barely had time to notify his wife to take refuge in a closet, while they called 911. The attacker, apparently under the influence of drugs, walked through the home leaving a trail of destruction before the police arrived at the scene.

According to the images shared, he broke objects in the kitchen and threw a refrigerator on the floor. In the living room, he also broke decorations, a coffee table, as well as fans and picture frames, among other objects.
