March registered 59 percent hotel occupancy in Yucatán, with Mérida being the destination with the highest level, reaching 61 percent, and the rest of the state reaching 49 percentage points.
The president of the Mexican Hotel Association in Yucatán, A.C. (AMHY), Juan José Martín Pacheco, explained that the overall figures for Yucatán and Mérida represented two points less than in the same period in 2024, while the other destinations in the state were similar to the same month last year.
He specified that Mérida, with 61 percent, was followed by the beaches with 52 points, Valladolid with 48.51 percent, Chichén Itzá with 47.30 points, and Izamal with 42.92 percent.
The hotel leader pointed out that the statistics were obtained from a sample of 5,881 rooms in 104 hotels across the state, including 5,130 rooms in 77 lodging centers located in Mérida and 751 rooms in 27 hotels in other municipalities.
Martín Pacheco emphasized that although the figures are very positive, there is a decrease in the overall percentage, which is due to many factors, such as the increase in the number of rooms in Mérida, Valladolid, and Izamal. Additionally, he said, many families in the beach segment rent houses or apartments, which is also a factor impacting the hotel sector in that area, which nevertheless maintains good figures.
In March, he said, sites such as Chichén Itzá, Valladolid, and Izamal showed positive numbers, bolstered by the equinox of that archaeological site, as March 21st is a date that attracts many national and international tourists, and for which there is a long weekend.
Juan José Martín indicated that overall, the first quarter of 2025 yielded an average increase of more than 58 percent for Yucatán hotels, reflecting a strong sector that could continue to grow in the second quarter statistics, considering that April marked the Easter holiday period.
