Reforms for digital platforms are urgently needed

The Union of Digital Application Workers of Yucatán (UTADY) raised its voice to demand regularization for those who work on platforms as delivery drivers, drivers, assistants, and buyers.

Clara López Cauich, the organization’s general secretary, clarified that the supposed flexibility of this type of employment should not be a pretext for denying social security or labor rights to those who daily face long hours, unsafe streets, and a lack of basic guarantees.

“This May 1st is not just a symbolic day; it is a day that reminds us that labor rights were achieved through organization and struggle. Today, a new generation of workers is raising their voices: those of us who work on digital platforms,” she stated.

The leader celebrated the federal government’s announcement of an upcoming reform to regulate work on digital applications, which she considered a step toward labor justice. However, she warned that this reform should not remain on paper.

Clara López called for the opening of real communication channels between authorities and workers.

“There can be no rights if those who demand them are not heard. We are exposed day after day; many colleagues face accidents, and some even lose their lives, leaving their families helpless,” he denounced.

UTADY called for harmonization of the Yucatán Transportation and Roads Law to properly recognize and regulate platform work.
