Fire under control in Celestún

On Friday, May 2nd, a brush fire broke out 18 kilometers before reaching the port of Celestún.

The fire is now under control and being attended to by municipal authorities, and does not pose a risk to the population, according to the State Civil Protection Coordination (Procivy).

The fire area is located at km 7, after passing the Sinkehuel turnoff booth, about 18 km before reaching the municipal seat. Therefore, people traveling in that area are advised to take precautions, such as reducing their vehicle speed and turning on their headlights if they encounter smoke, said Professor Hernán Hernández Rodríguez, head of Procivy.

“Municipal authorities are patrolling the affected area, since, although the fire was declared under control last night, they are confirming that it is out,” he indicated.

“The satellite imagery preliminarily identifies 159 hectares of burned brush, with no nearby urban areas,” he emphasized.
