In 2021, the Yucatán government issued a decree establishing, in Article 25 of the State Attorney General’s Law, that individuals registered in the Yucatán Registry of Delinquent Child Support Debtors will not be able to apply for or renew their driver’s license or access certain economic benefits granted by the Executive Branch.
“A delinquent child support debtor will not be able to apply for or renew their driver’s license or access economic benefits granted by the head of the executive branch of the State of Yucatán by decree, while they remain registered as a debtor in the Yucatán Registry of Delinquent Child Support Debtors,” the legislation states.
The same law indicates the exception in this case: “The foregoing unless it is demonstrated that the driver’s license is an indispensable work tool to meet child support obligations.”
Therefore, if those who owe child support apply for their license, they will be rejected. They must pay the corresponding support to avoid being included on the list of those who fail to comply with their child support obligations.
You must first file the corresponding complaint with the Yucatán State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), as that authority is responsible for initiating the investigation to verify the alleged debtor’s possible liability.
If a ruling is issued, the Prosecutor’s Office will be responsible for registering the child support debtor within 48 hours of receiving the court order.
