Woman dies after being struck by a “Va y Ven” bus in Mérida’s Industrial City

On Tuesday, April 29th, around 9 in the morning, a fatal accident occurred in which a woman, who has not yet been identified, died.

The woman died when she was struck by a “Va y Ven” Metropolitan System of “Friendly” and Sustainable Mobility bus as she attempted to cross International Avenue.

The accident occurred in the same location where several people have been struck by these buses, at the intersection of 25th Diagonal Street and 16th Street in the El Roble neighborhood.

The woman attempted to cross the avenue at a pedestrian crossing when she was struck by the bus, which was traveling in the exclusive lane designated for these vehicles.

The woman struck her head against the vehicle’s windshield, causing her death almost immediately.

Although emergency services arrived almost immediately, there was nothing they could do because the woman had already died.

The vehicle was immobilized, awaiting forensic authorities to retrieve the body and complete the corresponding proceedings.

Residents of El Roble are calling on authorities to modify the infrastructure used exclusively by these vehicles, which, according to them, this bus lane has caused more harm than good. They have documented at least six deaths caused by these Va y Ven public transportation units.
