Yucatán Municipalities will join forces to fight Dengue

Municipalities in Yucatán will have to join the efforts to combat dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that the strategy of de-cluttering will continue so that citizens can eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites in their homes, although she announced that this work will have to be carried out in each municipality.

Judith Ortega Canto, head of the state agency, specified that a Council of Municipalities for Health will be established, in which municipal authorities will be encouraged to take part in environmental care and the prevention of vector-borne diseases.

“De-cluttering will continue, but it will be expanded through groups that must be organized in the municipalities, through the participation of mayors. This is essential in the most populated, most urbanized municipalities, which are the most affected. For example: Progreso, Kanasín, Ticul,” she noted.

In this regard, it was emphasized that they are expected to be allies in raising awareness in the state’s communities.

Authorities indicate that the goal is for the most populated municipalities to be an important part of this campaign, as they potentially have a higher number of disease cases.
